SUMMARY:Solar Sailing at NHEBSC: Partial Solar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:\nFor your North Herts East Beds Sailing Club event:\n• ⛵ Race start: 19:00 BST\n• Maximum eclipse: 19:12 BST, just 12 minutes after the start, making for a spectacular backdrop as the fleet is on the water.\n• The eclipse continues until 20:05, with sunset later in the evening, providing excellent photo opportunities.\nHere are the key points:\n• Type: Deep partial solar eclipse (the total eclipse is visible from parts of Iceland and northern Spain, but not the UK).\n• Location: Hitchin/Letchworth/Luton area will all experience virtually the same view.\n• Starts: 18:16 BST\n• Maximum eclipse: 19:12 BST\n• Ends: 20:05 BST\n• ☀️ Sun covered: Around 91% of the Sun’s visible area (about 92.4% of its diameter).\n• Sun position: Low in the west to west-northwest sky, so choose a viewing spot with a clear western horizon.\n• ️ What you’ll notice:\n* Daylight becomes noticeably dimmer.\n* A slight drop in temperature.\n* Crescent-shaped shadows beneath leafy trees.\n* It will not become dark like night because a small crescent of the Sun remains extremely bright.\n• ️ Safety: Use ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses or a properly filtered solar telescope/binoculars. Never look directly at the Sun without suitable protection during any part of this partial eclipse.\n
